SHOMPOLE HIDE PHOTO SAFARI | KENYA
Shompole Wilderness is situated in Kenya’s South Rift, within the Great Rift Valley—the largest valley in the world. This stunning landscape lies between the Maasai Mara National Reserve to the northwest, Amboseli National Park to the southeast, and the Kenya-Tanzania border to the south. The camp is located on the community lands of the Shompole Maasai people, offering a unique connection to the local culture and environment.
The Rift Valley region, known as the “cradle of mankind,” boasts an incredible diversity of wildlife. The Shompole area alone is home to 21 carnivore species, all the large mammal species except for rhinos, and an impressive 435 bird species, making it one of Africa’s most biodiverse regions.
The Shompole Hide offers an up-close view of Shompole’s rare and shy wildlife, especially at night. Located 4.7 kilometers (3 miles) from the camp, the Hide features two sunken shipping containers with eye-level views of a waterhole, providing a unique, unobstructed wildlife experience. You can visit for an afternoon, evening, early morning, or even stay overnight.
Shompole Wilderness Camp, nestled along the Ewaso Ng’iro River on Shompole Community Land in Southern Kenya, offers an intimate and authentic safari experience. Managed by the du Toit family and their local Maasai team, the camp features just six spacious tents, ensuring a sense of privacy and connection with the surrounding wilderness.
Each tent is set on a wooden deck and offers modern comforts, including a flushing toilet and shower. Designed for flexibility, the tents can be arranged as double or twin rooms, with the option to add a children’s tent on the veranda of select tents. The thoughtful layout of the camp guarantees that every guest enjoys seclusion and tranquillity, surrounded by miles of stunning landscapes.
At Shompole Wilderness, guests can explore vast, untouched landscapes in the heart of Kenya’s Great Rift Valley, home to a rich diversity of wildlife including 21 carnivore species and over 400 bird species.
During the trip we will have exclusive use of the camp as well as the day/night hide.
The Shompole Hide provides a rare opportunity for close-up encounters with elusive nocturnal animals, designed in collaboration with a renowned wildlife photographer.
