Our Snow Leopard Expedition is a rare opportunity for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers to experience and capture stunning images of these elusive big cats in their natural habitat. Based in the Trans-Himalayas of Ladakh, India—home to one of the highest concentrations of snow leopards in the world—this journey offers exclusive access to the finest snow leopard camp and guidance from top expedition leaders. For those seeking the ultimate snow leopard photo tour, this expedition promises unparalleled sightings in an extraordinary landscape.
In northern India, Ladakh is one of the premier destinations globally for spotting snow leopards. Set against the backdrop of some of the world’s most majestic mountain ranges, our snow leopard expedition provides a fully immersive experience, combining the thrill of tracking these elusive cats with enriching insights into Ladakh’s vibrant culture and storied history.
Our journey begins in New Delhi, followed by a flight over the stunning Himalayas to Leh, the main city of Ladakh, where Central Asian and Himalayan cultures converge. After acclimatizing to the altitude, we explore Leh’s Tibetan monasteries, soaking in the rich spiritual heritage. We then transfer to LUNGMĀR Camp, our base nestled in prime snow leopard territory. Here, expert trackers scan the valleys and ridges daily for snow leopards and other wildlife while your expedition leader shares insights into local history, wildlife behaviours, and conservation efforts, creating a truly immersive experience.
Our hosts are deeply committed to conservation, with a portion of each booking and annual profits supporting the High Asia Habitat Fund. The Snow Leopard Expedition is proudly carbon-negative, with solar-powered camps, including the secluded and comfortable LUNGMĀR Camp. This dedication to environmental preservation ensures that guests enjoy an unforgettable adventure while actively contributing to the protection of this unique habitat.

Hemis National Park
On a typical day of the Snow Leopard Expedition, the experience begins at dawn. Expert spotters set out early, transported by 4x4s to strategic points across valleys, where they scan ridge lines and slopes for signs of wildlife, especially the elusive snow leopard. Back at camp, guests wake up around 7 AM and enter a warm, inviting dining area where French-pressed coffee, pots of tea, and made-to-order breakfasts await, setting the perfect tone for an adventurous day ahead.
When a snow leopard is spotted, the excitement at camp is immediate. Guests quickly head to the nearest vantage point, driven by 4x4s or walking, depending on the location. Spotters from nearby areas converge on the sighting, combining their skills to track the snow leopard for as long as possible. Throughout the sighting, guests are provided with meals, coffee, tea, and snacks, ensuring they stay fueled and comfortable while witnessing this unforgettable moment.
If a snow leopard isn’t sighted in the morning, the trackers return to camp to craft a new plan based on recent sightings and early intelligence. Guests then join the trackers as they explore various parts of the valley, enhancing the search for the elusive cat. Along the way, the team highlights unique birds and wildlife and shares insights into the area’s rich culture and history.
Throughout the day, guests have opportunities to visit local homes and villages, giving them a meaningful glimpse into Ladakh’s traditional way of life and the essential role local communities play in conservation efforts. These visits reveal the intricate connections between Ladakh’s people, wildlife, and landscapes, providing a deeper understanding of the region.
Each day on the expedition combines drives and guided walks, creating a dynamic and immersive experience. Meals are served at camp or packed to go, ensuring guests stay nourished for a full day of adventure. With expert guidance, dramatic landscapes, and the thrill of tracking snow leopards, every day on the Snow Leopard Expedition promises an unforgettable journey.
