Chobe photo safari

What to expect

The Chobe river in Northern Botswana ranks as one of our most popular destinations in Africa for wildlife photo safaris.

An absolute abundance of wildlife and birdlife ensures that you will have many opportunities to capture amazing images, regardless of your skill level.

What sets CNP photo safaris apart in our approach to nature photography is our specialized photographic vehicles that ensures you will always be in a position to get the most out of the scene in front of you.

In 2008 we set out to re-think and re-design wildlife photography as we knew it, especially when photographing from the river. The main reason being that animal and bird activity on the Chobe river is highly concentrated on the river banks and islands that form part of the landscape are impossible to access from a 4×4 vehicle. The river cruises and boats on offer were very unstable, while the bigger boats have the distinct disadvantage of having to navigate deeper waters which greatly restricts photo opportunities.

What we came up with, was the world’s first boat designed for photographers, flat bottomed for traversing very shallow waters, swiveling chairs for a 360 field op operation, camera gimbals that allow you to swing 180 degrees in a second or 2 while operating pro cameras and big prime lenses. 8 Chairs aligned in the center of the boat distributes weight much more evenly which all adds to an as close to perfect set-up as available anywhere in the world. Since our boats were launched on the Chobe river in 2009, several others have copied the design, not only in Botswana but also on Brazil’s Pantanal river, famous for its Jaguar photography, which we believe is testament to how near-perfect the design was.
